New Charlie Kaufman film, Frank Or Francis, due out next year

It’s been four years since Charlie Kaufman‘s last film, Synecdoche, New York was out, but next year will see the return of his unique brand of cinematic oddity, in the shape of Frank or Francis – a Hollywood satire set to music.

Kaufman‘s got quite a cast onboard too, including, Steve Carell, Kate Winslet, Jack Black, Nicholas Cage, Kevin Kline, Paul Reubens (aka Pee Wee Herman), Catherine Keener and Elizabeth Banks.

The film’s plot see’s a high-brow film director, Frank (Steve Carell), locked in a battle of wills with Francis (Jack Black), an online blogger who still lives with his parents and takes joy in attacking Frank‘s movies.

Nicolas Cage will star as an actor famous for starring in big, blockbuster films, while Kevin Kline appears in two roles; Firstly as a top Hollywood director and secondly and more bizarrely as as the man’s brother, a classic Kaufmanian character who turns into an animatronic head!

Meanwhile, Elizabeth Banks, is down to play an actress whose careerĀ consists of formulaic rom-coms (seems there’s some eery similarities going on here) and Paul Reubens will play a film critic.

Kaufman will also direct the film, which is set to be released early next year.
