New Discovery – Tim Lukeman

Posted in Art with tags , , , , , , , , on May 16, 2013 by dc

Tim Lukeman (aka owlwise12) is a collage artist – location unknown. I do know he’s in his late 50′s, married and once wrote fantasy novels though (it says so on his Flickr account).

I spotted some of his work on Pinterest and thought I’d share a couple as he’s done some great stuff (prints are available on request – check out more of his work here):

Beavis & Butthead – ‘real life’ sculptures

Posted in Art, Cartoon, TV with tags , , , , , , , , on April 20, 2013 by dc

I spotted these brilliant life-like sculptures on Facebook earlier. They’re based on what Beavis and Butthead might look like as ‘real’ kids.

The busts were created by Hollywood makeup and special effects artist Kevin Kirkpatrick (I think they were made last year sometime). Check out how detailed and cool they are:

Wanna Buy A Cosmic Ocean? by Pete Fowler

I’ve loved Pete Fowler‘s work ever since I first clamped eyes on his album cover art for the Super Furry AnimalsRadiator LP in 1997.

I spotted ‘Wanna Buy A Cosmic Ocean ?‘ on Pinterest earlier this week (it dates back to sometime last year) and felt the need to share it – enjoy:

Here’s a really cool graffiti portrait of English broadcaster, naturalist and ‘national treasure’, Sir David Attenborough. It’s located somewhere in Sheffield and it’s by the mysteriously named, Rocket01:

Alternative movie poster for The Wicker Man

Posted in Art, Design, Film, Movies with tags , , , , , , , , on March 14, 2013 by dc

As regular visitors know, we’re big fans of alternative film posters and movie fan art here at Slacker Shack. One of our favourite spots of recent times has been this alternative poster design for 1973 British film, The Wicker Man – check it out below, it’s stunning:

The poster is by freelance illustrator/designer/screenprinter Dan Mumford, who works out of Studio100 in central London and screenprint studio in Dalston. You can check out more of his work here.

The art of Wangechi Mutu

Posted in Art with tags , , , , , , , , on March 11, 2013 by dc

Wangechi Mutu is an artist who lives and works in Brooklyn, New York. Her work often contains plant-like and/or human-like elements mixed with abstract patterns and decorations. I love it for it’s wild and vivid surrealism – and her work extends from collage and paintings through to sculptural installations.

Her work, whilst new to me, has appeared in a number of the biggest galleries in the world, from the Tate Modern in London to the Deutsche Guggenheim in Berlin and the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art.

Check out three of my favourite Mutu pieces below:

WM1
Intertwined (2003)

WM2
Homeward Bound (2009)

WM4
Untitled mixed media collage (2003)

Check out more of Wangechi Mutu’s work here.

I don’t know much about this lovely bit of ‘film geek’ sculpture. Nonetheless, I spotted it on a site called bravecadet.com and thought I’d share it:

The art of Pat Perry

Posted in Art with tags , , , , , , , on February 28, 2013 by dc

One of my favourite current artists is Michigan based illustrator and painter, Pat Perry. I love the surreal nature of his work and the rich intricacy. I also love his seemingly ongoing fascination with the human head and buildings. The best compliment I can give his work is that it makes my eyes dance.

Check out some of his work below and see if it makes your eyes dance slightly too:
