This forthcoming film starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Scarlett Johansson, Julianne Moore and (wait for it) Tony Danza, looks pretty amusing if the premise and trailer is anything to go by.

Don Jon tells the tale of a New Jersey guy (dedicated to his family, friends, and church) who develops unrealistic expectations from watching porn and works to find happiness and intimacy with his potential true love. Check out the trailer below:

Don Jon is released in the US on 18th October and in the UK on the 15th November.

Master action film director, Paul Greengrass has teamed up with the ever-bankable, Tom Hanks on forthcoming drama, Captain Phillips.

The film tells the true story of Captain Richard Phillips and the 2009 hijacking by Somali pirates of the US-flagged MV Maersk Alabama, the first American cargo ship to be hijacked in two hundred years.

Looks like a good ‘un to me – check out the trailer below:

Captain Phillips is released on 11th October.

machete kills poster

Back in 2010, Robert Rodriguez (and Ethan Maniquis) directed the madcapped action film, Machete. The hugely entertaining explotation film homage was released to mixed reviews but gained a cult following.

Now three years on, Rodriguez has made a sequel, Machete Kills. The brief plot (as if it really matters) is as follows, “The U.S. government recruits Machete (Danny Trejo) to battle his way through Mexico in order to take down an arms dealer who looks to launch a weapon into space.”

The film stars original cast members Danny Trejo, Michelle Rodriguez and Jessica Alba. They’re joined by Mel Gibson, Antonio Banderas, Charlie Sheen (or Carlos Estevez as the trailer prefers), Modern Family‘s Sofia Vergara (complete with machine gun brasierre), Vanessa Hudgens, Cuba Gooding Jnr and William Sadler (and rather unfortunately Lady Gaga too).

Check out the trailer below:

Machete Kills is released in US cinemas on the 13 September – as yet there’s no scheduled UK release date.

This Is The End – trailer

Posted in Film, Movies with tags , , , , , , , , on May 8, 2013 by dc

Here’s the trailer for Evan Goldberg and Seth Rogen‘s latest comedy, This Is The End.

The film’s stars (James Franco, Paul Rudd, Seth Rogen, Jonah Hill, Michael Cera and loads more) all play their celebrity selves and the basic ‘one line’ plot is as follows – “While attending a party at James Franco’s house in Los Angeles, Seth Rogen, Jay Baruchel and many other celebrities are faced with the apocalypse.”

The pair’s last few films, The Watch, Pineapple Express and Superbad have helped redefine modern US comedy cinema. Whether success will continue to follow the pair is open to debate. The Godfather of modern US comedy cinema, Judd Apatow‘s last film, This Is 40 got a critical mauling in the most part, and Rogen‘s been in a fair few flops too.

The trailer below looks pretty good though, and the cast is a role call of current US comedy stars (it only seems to be missing Will Ferrell and Steve Carell):

This Is The End is released in US cinemas on 12th June, and in UK cinemas just over a fortnight later on the 28th.
