It’s been 12 years since D’Angelo released, Voodoo. And it’s been a rocky road for him these past dozen years too, what with countless drug arrests, battles with alcohol, drink driving and prostitution busts. Many wondered whether he’d ever make it back from the brink.

But he’s back, and currently touring around Europe. He’s also close to completing the follow-up to Voodoo, James River, which is set for release this year.

Another welcome surprise was D’Angelo‘s choice of cover version at a gig in Paris last night – David Bowie‘s Space Oddity. Check it out below:

Jack White set to release debut solo album, ‘Blunderbuss’

We’ve had the White Stripes, The Raconteurs and The Dead Weather, plus many collaborations along the way, but 2012 finally sees Jack White release his debut solo album.

Blunderbuss is out on 24th April 24 via Third Man/Columbia, and you can listen to first single, Love Interruption, here.

White has spoken about his debut solo album, Blunderbuss saying it’s, “an album I couldn’t have released until now. I’ve put off making records under my own name for a long time but these songs feel like they could only be presented under my name. These songs were written from scratch, had nothing to do with anyone or anything else but my own expression, my own colors on my own canvas.”

Love Interruption will be available to buy digitally from tonight.

Check out the new Paul McCartney album, ‘Kisses on the Bottom’ (if you can be arsed)

To get in any way excited by a new Paul McCartney album there’s a lot of bollocks you have to erase from your mind – the constant thumbs up, the marriage to Heather, the Frog Chorus, Ebony & Ivory, the Michael Jackson duet, Mull of Kintyre etc.

There’s some good stuff to be listened to from Paul’s back catalogue though, for those of you who like to think he’s done nothing of any quality since The Beatles – the RAM and Band On The Run albums (in the most part) and bits of McCartney II, Flaming Pie and Electric Arguments. Lots and lots of rubbish like, but it’s got to start getting tricky when you’ve done it all and there’s a not a lot else left to achieve – hasn’t it?

Anyway, Macca‘s got a new album out next week, filled with songs he spent his youth listening to and enjoying, before he helped form the biggest band the world has ever seen. The album’s called Kisses on the Bottom (a title taken from a Fats Waller lyric) and features guests including, Diana Krall, Stevie Wonder and Eric Clapton.

If you’re able to forget about all the past errors of judgement and frequent lapses into musical pap, you can check out an exclusive stream of the album over at The Guardian website here.

Get hold of your very own Big Lebowski cardigan

If, like me, you’re a bit of a movie nerd and a Big Lebowski nut too, maybe, just maybe you like the idea of owning your very own Dude cardigan.

You’re luck’s in if you do, as last year a few cardigan replicas were released and a few of them still seem to be popping up on ebay.

The cardigan’s design is known as ‘authentic cowichan pendleton’ and looks perfect slouching on the shoulders of any discerning slacker down the local ten pin bowling alley.

New Charlie Kaufman film, Frank Or Francis, due out next year

It’s been four years since Charlie Kaufman‘s last film, Synecdoche, New York was out, but next year will see the return of his unique brand of cinematic oddity, in the shape of Frank or Francis – a Hollywood satire set to music.

Kaufman‘s got quite a cast onboard too, including, Steve Carell, Kate Winslet, Jack Black, Nicholas Cage, Kevin Kline, Paul Reubens (aka Pee Wee Herman), Catherine Keener and Elizabeth Banks.

The film’s plot see’s a high-brow film director, Frank (Steve Carell), locked in a battle of wills with Francis (Jack Black), an online blogger who still lives with his parents and takes joy in attacking Frank‘s movies.

Nicolas Cage will star as an actor famous for starring in big, blockbuster films, while Kevin Kline appears in two roles; Firstly as a top Hollywood director and secondly and more bizarrely as as the man’s brother, a classic Kaufmanian character who turns into an animatronic head!

Meanwhile, Elizabeth Banks, is down to play an actress whose career consists of formulaic rom-coms (seems there’s some eery similarities going on here) and Paul Reubens will play a film critic.

Kaufman will also direct the film, which is set to be released early next year.
