Note to self – Chopstick Pickpockets would be a great name for a band.

I heard a few tunes by slacker-punk band FIDLAR tonight for the first time and I’m quite impressed. The Los Angeles based band are the latest signings to Wichita Recordings, and if you can get past the fact that their band name supposedly stands for ‘Fuck It, Dog, Life’s A Risk’ they’re a pretty tuneful bunch of skater boy stoners knocking out some quality slacker rock.
There’s a kind of Ramones meets The Black Lips buzz to their sound – with a tiny bit of Beach Boys thrown in just to make things tuneful – and their last EP Don’t Try (which was released last month), was named after Charles Bukowski‘s epitaph, just to chuck a bit of beat poetry into the mix.
Check out the highlight track from their Don’t Try EP, Got No Money, below:
The new Grizzly Bear album Shields is currently wowing critics the world over (it’s currently averaging a rather impressive 86 on Metacritic) and now they’ve released a new video for one of the album’s stand out tunes, Yet Again.
The video is directed by Emily Kai Bock who also directed Grimes‘ Oblivion – check out the video for Yet Again below:
On the day Neil Young arrived on Twitter (@neilyoung no less) Slacker Shack brings you the new video for Walk Like a Giant. The track is taken from the Neil Young & Crazy Horse‘s forthcoming LP, Psychedelic Pill (out October 30 via Reprise).

You may have recently read about (Bon Iver frontman) Justin Vernon‘s tattoo design competition that he ran on the website 99 designs.
Well the competition’s now over and today the winner was announced.
The brief was fairly simple but pretty specific to – it went as follows:
“I named my band after an episode of Northern Exposure. In the episode a women transforms a gold rush village into a cultural place with one single dance in a tavern. They name the town after her, Cicely, Alaska.
“The art direction in the episode is unmistakably Mucha and I want to get a very large tattoo of this on my left arm.
“Ill include some images of the actual episode, of Cicely herself, and of some of the Mucha pieces I want the shape and style to be like. A tall rectangular, stained glass, bold lines shadow box! Please, help!
“My favorite, hopefully what your illustrations will be based on, is the image I uploaded of Cicely with arms outstretched in mid-dance. You can’t see her with the flowing scarf in her hands, but that would be cool if we could involve that. THANK YOU!”
The winning design, pictured below, was created by the Italian artist Giulio Rosso, who beat 59 entries by 26 other designers. Rosso also won $175 and the design will be tattooed onto one of Vernon‘s arms.
