Slacker Shack’s favourite Beck ‘Song Reader’ covers

Last month Beck released his much talked about Song Reader – an album that came in book form and featured twenty songs as sheet music.

Over the last few months lots of musical folk have been uploading their covers/interpretations of songs from the album – some are terrible, some are delightfully peculiar and loads of them are a little bit ‘too safe’ and slapdash – but there are a few jewels to be found.

Here’s Slacker Shack‘s favourite five:

Just Noise” – performed by Beef Wellington

Title Of This Song” performed by Portland Cello Project and Lizzy Ellison

The Wolf Is On The Hill” performed by Jason Crosby and Lucy Chapin

Don’t Act Like Your Heart Isn’t Hard” performed by Steve Mason

Please Leave a Light On When You Go” – performed by Paul Lambeek

Not sure about you, but Beef Wellington‘s ‘Just Noise‘ is the standout track I reckon.

One moan though – it strikes me that what Beck could do with is a microsite all these fans could visit and upload their interpretations onto. Bit of an opportunity missed.
