New Discovery – Dan Friel

I can’t decide whether this is brilliant or absolutely horrible – help me:

Thumper is taken from Brooklyn based musician and electronic knob twiddler, Dan Friel‘s debut album, Total Folklore (which was released two weeks ago).

The album was recorded at Friel‘s home on a computer bought in 2001 and running OS9 – and the main keyboard he uses is a Yamaha Portasound from 1984. Which I guess explains Thrill Jockey‘s description of Friel‘s sound as, “a bit nostalgic and completely frayed around the edges.”

You can buy Total Folklore here.
