Twitter ‘music app’ set to launch at Coachella this weekend

It was due to launch yesterday but rumours are now circling that Twitter‘s new music app is set to launch sometime this weekend at the Coachella music festival.

US TV host Ryan Seacrest has already tweeted his approval after seeing it in action, as has rapper Wiz Khalifa, who tweeted, “Man this new Twitter music app is insane”.

On Thursday, Twitter confirmed its acquisition of the Australian music discovery service, We Are Hunted (which gives its users the opportunity to follow emerging music trends and artists) and ever since then rumours have been building.

The We Are Hunted site posted the following message on it’s soon to be defunct site, “While we are shutting down, we will continue to create services that will delight you, as part of the Twitter team.

“There’s no question that Twitter and music go well together. Artists turn to Twitter first to connect with fans, and people share and discover new songs and albums every day. We can’t wait to share what we’ve been working on at Twitter.”

Twitter is staying fairly quiet about the subject as I write this, but according to, the new app will supposedly suggest songs and artists based on what accounts a Twitter user follows, with songs being streamed through SoundCloud and other hosting sites.
