Seventh Son – trailer

seventhson

Two years ago I watched Russian director, Sergey Bodrov‘s excellent film, Mongol: The Rise Of Genghis Khan. I’d read a few bits and bobs about Genghis Khan and Mongol… ramped up my fascination. It’s a great film.

Six years on from Mongol…, Bodrov‘s forthcoming film, Seventh Son, is his first English language film. It’s a fantasy movie based on The Wardstone Chronicles (or The Spook’s Apprentice in the UK) – a series of dark fantasy books written by British author Joseph Delaney.

The basic plot of Seventh Son is as follows – “John Gregory (Jeff Bridges) is a Spook (a person who fights against the Dark) who imprisoned the malevolently powerful witch, Mother Malkin (Julianne Moore), centuries ago. But now she has escaped and is seeking vengeance. Summoning her followers, Mother Malkin is preparing to unleash her terrible wrath on an unsuspecting world. Only one thing stands in her way: John Gregory. In a deadly reunion, Gregory comes face to face with the evil he always feared would someday return. Now he has only until the next full moon to do what usually takes years: train his new apprentice, Tom Ward (Ben Barnes) to fight a dark magic unlike any other. Man’s only hope lies in the seventh son of a seventh son.”

Sounds like Lord of the Rings, Game of Thrones and Harry Potter fans will enjoy it anyway!

Seventh Son is released in UK cinemas on the 25th October. US audiences will have to wait until the 17th January next year (not quite sure why there’s such a gap!).
