Chappie – trailer

By the looks of the trailer, Neill Blomkamp‘s (District 9, Elysium) forthcoming film, Chappie, is basically a 2015 remake of Short Circuit for adults. Maybe that’s a tad cruel as it does look pretty entertaining, but it certainly the first reference point I thought of about 30 seconds into the trailer.

The film stars Dev Patel, Sharlto Copley, Sigourney Weaver and Hugh Jackman, and Blomkamp‘s also made the interesting decision to cast Die Antwoord duo, Ninja and Yo-Landi Vi$$er in support roles – which is either a cynical piece of crossover casting that’ll draw in fans of the groups’s shock-rap stylings, a lame idea that’ll backfire like the film efforts of Madonna or Prince or a truly inspired idea. Time will tell.

Chappie is released in UK and US cinemas on the 6th March next year – check out the trailer below:
