What can we expect from the forthcoming Modest Mouse album, ‘Strangers To Ourselves’?
Out of the album’s scheduled for release in 2015, the one I’m probably most looking forward to is Modest Mouse‘s Strangers To Ourselves. It’s out on the 3rd of March and will be their first album in 8 years.
The band have been very quiet about what we can expect to hear though, so the ‘Lampshades On Fire‘ tune aside what do we already know:
- Back in 2011 Outkast rapper, Big Boi tweeted that he was working with the band on some tracks, described by the man himself as a, “hodgepodge of funkiness”
- In September 2013 former Nirvana bassist, Krist Novoselic, revealed in an interview that he was working with the band and that the tunes he’d worked on were ‘pretty edgy’
- The band have been playing a number of new tunes live for 2 or 3 years now – these songs include ‘Be Brave’, ‘Shit In Your Cut’, ‘Coyotes’, ‘Pistol’, ‘Sugar Boats’ (which has also been introduced as ‘Heart Of Mine’) and ‘Poison The Well’
- The album cover has been revealed (see above) – it’s a satellite photograph of Venture Out RV Resort in Mesa, Arizona
…and that’s about it really. If Lampshades On Fire is any indication of how it’ll sound, then I reckon we can expect classic Modest Mouse but with an added emphasis on a backbone of funk and the tight production sound they’ve had since 2000’s The Moon & Antarctica. I can’t wait…
