New Ghostface Killah album ’12 Reasons to Die’ is also a comic book series

A week next Monday, Ghostface Killah releases his latest album, 12 Reasons to Die.

The LP is a collaboration with composer and producer Adrian Younge and is billed as “a daring, full-length crime / horror concept album”.

Younge produced the score for 2009 blaxplotation spoof, Black Dynamite and his work feeds off a love of late 1960s and early 1970s psychedelic soul. Which seems an ideal fit.

As well as a full album release, 12 Reasons to Die is also a six part comic book series – which has led to it being packaged as a, “multi-platform revenge saga” (sounds good doesn’t it marketers?).

Intrigued? If the answer’s ‘yes’, check out the trailer below, released by Black Mask Studios, to build hype ahead of the album and comic release on 22nd April – and whet your whistle:

The new album from French duo Daft Punk is out on the 21st May. The album’s called, Random Access Memories, and is now up for pre-order on iTunes.

The follow-up to 2010’s Tron: Legacy soundtrack has 13 tracks and features guest spots from Giorgio Moroder, Panda Bear and Nile Rodgers.

Check out the short teaser ad that aired a couple of days ago below. It’s only 15 seconds long but it does the trick of whetting appetites nonetheless:

Jimi Hendrix – guitar picks mosaic

I spotted this brilliant mosaic today via Twitter:

The mosaic was created by UK artist Ed Chapman and it’s made out of over 5000 guitar plectrums.

The piece was auctioned early last year at Cancer Research UK’s Sound & Vision event at Abbey Road Studios – and it raised £23k. Nice work!

Troll Hunter

I went to watch new Norwegian horror-comedy-fantasy, Troll Hunter  at Manchester’s Cornerhouse last weekend – and I have to say it was a real treat.

Part Blair Witch Project, part Where the Wild Things Are, the film weaves a delightfully action packed and fantastical spell on it’s audience – helped in part by it’s dizzying blend of hand-held camera work and top-notch special effects.

In the movie a group of film students investigate a series of mysterious bear killings, but learn that there are much more dangerous things going on. They start to follow a mysterious hunter to try and find out more, only to discover that he’s actually hunting…. trolls.

Check out some of the excellent original artwork for the film’s trolls over at the Empire site here.

And if you haven’t seen the film yet, get going.
