Justice – On’n’On – new video

Here’s the latest video from Justice‘s Audio Video Disco album which was released October last year. On’n’On sounds like a collaboration between E.L.O and Yello produced by Air in my book – and that’s no bad thing:

Is electro-prog-pop a genre? It should be.

The On’n’On EP is released on 30th January and includes remixes by Brodinski, Erol Alkan, Rick Rubin, TIGA and Video Village.

Justice – Audio, Video, Disco – track by track

French dance duo, Justice’s latest album, Audio, Video, Disco see’s them dip their toes into proggy waters. Here’s a quick track by track breakdown:

Horsepower – the album opener sounds like an arena quaking Jean Michel Jarre meets Discovery-era Daft Punk – the sonic equivalent of disco search lights
Civilization – it’s like a warbling electro off-cut from Jeff Wayne’s, The War of the Worlds –with Ali Love on vocals
Ohio – Sounds like something you might find on an Ed Banger, Air Tribute album, if such a thing existed – then two and a half minutes in it starts to grizzle and squelch like a lost instrumental from the Beastie Boys’, Hello Nasty
Canon (Primo) – This 27 second ditty sounds like a medieval folk song played on synths – it’s odd and fucking funny too
Canon – is there such a thing as glam-electro? If there wasn’t before there is now
On ‘n’ On – It’s now becoming clear that this is basically a prog-electro album – a bit Air’s 10,000 Hz Legend, a bit Daft Punk’s, Discovery, all mixed up with snatches of Led Zep strings, Jethro Tull flute solos and 70’s hippy-glam – with Diamond Nights’ Morgan Phalen on vocals
Brianvision – Plodding Jean Michel Jarre soundtracks Camelot inspired short film bore-a-thon – you might want to skip this one
Parade – Another stinker – sounds like the kind of music you’d find on a French PR firm’s website
New Lands – Smoother than 10cc produced by Quincy Jones and another tune featuring Morgan Phalen on vocals – it’s all a bit ‘nice but boring’ until two and a half minutes in when it goes ‘Top Gear’ in outer space – if this song isn’t used on a car commercial at some point soon I’ll eat my trousers
Helix – a bit more like classic JusticeLouis Spence’s next Sky One reality show will definitely use this tune to soundtrack a montage sequence at some point – all hiccupping synth funk – a real camp-dance-practice head nodder
Audio, Video, Disco – Rather neatly the album closer seems to sum up all the things that seemingly influenced the album – Daft Punk’s Discovery, Air’s entire output, the retro-futurism of Jean Michel Jarre and a nice dash of silly, wiggy 70’s hippiness to round things off

It’s all very daft and wibbly – but it leaves you grinning like a drunk classics student in a wizard’s outfit.

Audio, Video, Disco is released in the UK on 24th October. You can pre-order it here.
