Radstewart – Fix The Roads – new video

Last September I had the pleasure of discovering a great new ‘slacker rock’ band on Bolton FM – the daftly/deftly named, Radstewart.

At worst they’re a Stephen Malkmus tribute band (but when you’ve got Malkmus as your key point of reference, can it ever really be seen as a bad thing?) – at their best they’re wonky and joyful.

Their latest single is called Fix The Roads – and it’s cracking – check out the delightfully lo-fi video below:

New Discovery – Obedient Wives Club

Here’s something a bit different to listen to as we drift off into our Sunday evenings…

Obedient Wives Club are a five piece band from Singapore who belt out songs inspired by guitarist Keith Tan‘s ‘almost unhealthy obsession’ with Phil Spector.

Their fuzzy lo-fi indie-pop is brilliantly swoonsome and lead singer, YinQi Lee has a voice, according to her record label, that you’ll, “want to make love to.” And their lo-fi ‘Spectorgaze‘ sound has led London based label, Rough Trade to purr, “Obedient Wives Club have built a massive cathedral of emotion, a group sound that is brooding, washed with shoegaze tones but also pulsing with a beating heart of melancholic female vocals.”

Check out Murder Kill Baby (from the EP of the same name – which was released back in February) below:

Here’s the latest tune to come off Death GripsThe Money Store album, and a new video to go with it.

Double Helix is a self-directed video filmed entirely from the inside of a Toyota Prius using just the rearview camera. I love a nice bit of lo-fi visuals:

New Discovery – Milk Maid

Here’s a top notch slice of tweenties lo-fi slacker rock to start the week off nicely. Milk Maid are a Manchester three piece consisting of Adam Carless, Ian Hodson, and songwriter Martin Cohen and according to their label Fat Cat Records website a, “DIY aesthetic has been a key component in the band’s ethos, with Cohen writing and recording everything in his flat.”

They’ve been given airplay by 6 Music‘s Marc Riley, been well reviewed on indie uber-site, Pitchfork, and their latest single, Summertime is released on 25th June. The song is the lead single from their forthcoming second album, Mostly No, which is out on 26th June in the U.S. and 9th July in the UK.

A recent press release describes the band’s sound as simultaneously recalling, “the grand traditions of Manchester indie and Californian acid rock”, and Milk Maid have had favourable comparisons to 90’s Slacker Gods Guided By Voices and Sebadoh.

Check out the video for Summertime below:
