There’s so much quality psychedelic and garage rock music knocking about at the moment it’s kid in a sweet shop time!

One of my favourite tunes of the last few days is ‘Pleasure’ by the excellently named Frankie and the Witch Fingers. Imagine King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard jamming with Kula Shaker in the Black Keys‘ spare bedroom and you’re half the way there – check out the video below:

The Claypool Lennon Delirium – Blood and Rockets – new video

The Claypool Lennon Delirium is the brainchild of Sean Lennon and Primus‘s Les Claypool. Anyone who heard their excellent debut album, Monolith of Phobos, back in 2016 will have noted it’s love of all things psychedelic, and more than likely enjoyed it muchly too.

Now, with their latest six and a half minute opus, Blood and Rockets, they’ve fully embraced that mid 1960’s psychedelic vibe and gone all ‘Sergeant Pepper‘s‘. It’s a glorious track sucking in just enough of that elusive Lennon & McCartney aura to make it feel inspired as opposed to just another weak pastiche.

New album, South of Reality, is out next week and if it’s anything like ‘Blood and Rockets‘ we’re in for a treat – check out the Terry Gilliam-esque video below:

Weezer cover A-ha’s ‘Take On Me’

It’s one of the most iconic music videos of all time and one of the biggest number 1’s of the 1980’s, and now A-ha‘s Take On Me has been covered by legendary US rock band, Weezer.

Weezer even go as far as apeing the Norwegian band’s video with a retro-inspired pastiche that features Stranger ThingsFinn Wolfhard and his band, Calpurnia miming along to the tune, as well as nods to the original video’s animated sequence.

SWJ Group – ShazZam – new video

Mancunian music is sometimes bogged down by its history. All baggy shufflings, swaggering pub-rock or Smiths obsessed swoonery. But every now and again a band comes along with something exciting, and above all else, fresh and unique to offer.

Step forward, SWJ Group, the latest bunch of talented hoodlums, Tameside singer-songwriter, Stephen Wilson Jnr has put together. With an exhilarating splurge of head nodding funk, a colourful smattering of psychedelia and cool waft of 70’s alt-rock, their sound is both refreshing and inspired.

New single, ShazZam, follows on brilliantly from debut single, Scribbles, and their forthcoming mini album looks set to be an absolute stonker. Check out the new video for, ShazZam, below:

King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard – Cyboogie – new video

Slacker Shack favourites, King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard are back. Just twelve months after finishing their mentally busy 2017, which saw them release five albums and then go on tour.

We’ve missed them and we’re overjoyed to report that they’re still brain looseningly brilliant.

New single, Cyboogie, sees the Aussie psychonauts dip a toe into the glam rock pond and the accompanying video is a gloriously silly load of lo-fi-retro nonsense – check it out below:
